Impact of
globalization on culture
Globalization has transformed the entire world to a global
village. Technology has developed immaculately and that resulted in
changing the living standards of people to a great extent. All
these, in a sense can be attributed to the impacts of
globalization.
From a confined business meaning to a pronounced accent of the
world-Amazing, it was. More importantly, it has played a
significant role in re-drawing the architecture of the society.
But, in that course of time, has cultural architecture been
reconstructed? Rather demolished? Who could speak better?
Numerous central governments have encouraged the globalization
movement due to the severe pressure from the World Trade
Organization. After the outset of globalization, as mentioned,
living standards and cultural values have changed a lot.
Lot of those changes was good for a country’s economy.
Employment opportunities created worldwide, steps taken to
eradicate poverty etc are a couple of the appreciable movements
conducted. None can argue on the fact that globalization has
improved the communication methods of even the under developed
countries to a great extent.
Media has played a significant role in enhancing the spirits of
globalization. To cite an example of the communication boom, mobile
phones can be thought of as a product of globalization.
When reach ability, convenience and easy communication are added
as the parameters of mobile phones, it has got its dark side when
misused.
Numerous rape cases and suicides have been reported in the
recent past due to the misuse of mobile phones. Here, some
prestigious tradition was hurt and some treasured cultural
architecture fell low due to the advent of globalization.
It is always great to think about the good impacts of
globalization. It is lucky to have lived in a world which never
devalued geographical boundaries. But, cultural degradation could
let a nation’s reputation go down.
It could let a long treasured fame of cultural legacy to be
looked at, with an eye of suspicion. Stats show that violence
against women has increased significantly since the onset of
globalization.
As mentioned above, sophisticated communication mechanisms
including internet enabled people to observe and analyze other
nation’s culture and traditions. This tempted them to follow the
other tradition and custom, which resulted in cultural
compromise.
Hence, the transition from a conservative nature to an open book
brought in serious troubles. As a matter of fact, social values
were blown away. A prestigious culture of a country might be so
reserved in nature.
The uncommon jubilations of friendships, the unseen dating
custom between a boy and a girl, the unanticipated rise of call
girls, the severe aftermaths witnessed due to under aged and
unprotected sex etc were new to the reserved culture of
some countries.
The physical illness as well as the mental handicap of youth was
too severe for those cultures to adapt with. Has globalization got
no role in degradation of these values? Ever since globalization
has routed itself deep, flow of money increased unbelievably.
But, this has certainly attributed to the increase in corruption
in almost all areas of social living. This too has attributed to
marginal letdown of cultural practices alongside the many
improvements that have been bought about.
